This morning – Westminster was documented. I started at Pimlico, at a little after 5am. I’d set off as early as I could manage, in hopes of capturing a certain morning light across that part of London – I was not disappointed.
By 7am I was walking through Hyde Park in the morning’s first bit of sunshine… by 7:30am I was in need of a toilet and power walking pretty frantically through the park to find the facilities. I feel I could do a side-project about London toilets, following today. It may be a bit crude to list the toilets I managed to find to use, but I will – Victoria Station, Hyde Park, a Shell Garage in Royal Oak, and The Wallace Collection. All were pretty well kept; in case you’re concerned about the Shell Garage – I was desperate, but also pleasantly surprised. Good work, Westminster.
In total I made it round to 12 ‘town centres’ as listed in the London Plan. In order of my visitations this morning –
- Warwick Way / Tachbrook Street
- Victoria Street
- Knightsbridge
- Queensway / Westbourne Grove
- Harrow Road
- St John’s Wood
- Edgware Road / Church Street
- Praed Street / Paddington
- Edgware Road South
- Marylebone High Street
- Baker Street
- Marylebone Road
Oh – and I walked between each location; in total it took just under six hours – but truthfully I stopped a lot to take in my surroundings (not just to use the toilets), and I walked at a relaxed pace.
This was definitely my favourite documentation trip so far! Thank you, Westminster – I’ll be back to capture Covent Garden / Strand, and the West End, one night soon!
