Creative Journaling

During my work on Unit 1, I found it particularly helpful to document daily thoughts and ideas that came to me, by noting them down as sort-of diary entries in the Notes app on my Apple iPhone. I find this a useful tool to help me articulate ideas, and to stay on track with what is interesting me about projects on a daily basis. I have decided that for Unit 2 I will display these entries on my website as dated blog posts.

Eventually, despite a lot of back and forth thinking, contemplation, imagining, experimentation, and researching all manner of things from children’s stories and illustrations, to global news articles that have shaped the world – I took some time away from the brief to reset. As I was clearing some space in my room, I came across ten canvases that I had previously started work on and then put down with no intention of picking them back up to complete. This gave way to an idea which has since grown beyond simply ‘resuming‘ painting, and evolved into a sort of psychological-creative study…

Planning & Problem Solving

In order to keep up with a packed-in workload, and to ensure I have been actively considering the brief throughout, it has helped me to keep a creative journal to refer back to. This aids my thinking and trying to keep track of many ideas I have had over the course of the last few weeks. These may not all be ideas I refer back to now, some perhaps may not be looked into again, however I feel a keenness to create and now have a back-catalog of ideas to be explored.

Despite regular journaling in the Notes app on my iPhone, before copying them across to my website, I found myself getting quite overwhelmed at times and so I found it useful to create to-do lists, again in the Notes app on my iPhone, as they can transfer across devices via the cloud. I did this to ensure I kept up with all my intentions for the projects, as well as the transference to my website. There were aspects of this that still proved challenging to keep on top of, and I feel I could better manage my time going forward. However, I have a good plan in place for moving ahead and tackling the challenge of painting several canvases within a limited time frame. One expectation, or concern that I have is around having time to view all of the footage of myself painting back, and so I will likely speed the footage up to get through it, or skip along using the cursor in Adobe Premiere Pro when I get to that stage.
